What is ROES? Is Natural Express Network (NEN) the same as ROES?
Yes. ROES stands for Remote Order Entry System. Natural Express Network is our version of ROES.
Is there more than one version of ROES? What are the differences?
There are three versions of ROES: Natural ROES, ROES RTP, and Natural Press. Natural ROES is for all color corrected photographic products. ROES RTP is for all non-color corrected photographic products. Natural Press is for all press printed products.
How do I install ROES?
Installation is simple. Go to our website (www.naturalcolorlab.com) and from the Services drop down menu select ROES Natural Express, then pick which of the three ROES versions you need. Once selected, click on the Launch link.
I clicked on the Launch Natural Express Network link and it didn't automatically install. What do I do now?
In this situation the first thing you should do is update your java. ROES (and many other programs) use this free software, so having the latest is always optimal. Visit www.java.com if you are on a PC, or www.apple.com/java if you are on a MAC.
How do I load my images into ROES?
Click the Folder button in the lower right. This will allow you to browse for the folder that holds your images. Once you have found it, click on the folder and select Open. They will appear on the right. If there are over 500 images it may take a moment to fill them in. This is normal, and in most cases you can continue to use ROES while they do.
Too many images are showing up! Did I do something wrong?
This is probably due to an option in your Preferences. Click the Preferences button at the bottom of the screen and uncheck Search Enclosed Folders.
My Images show up too big/small, can I adjust their size?
Using the Zoom menu in the lower right will adjust how large or small your thumbnails show up. Further adjustments can be made by sliding the divider between the right and left sides of the screen back and forth.
The product template showing on the left is not what I want. How do I change it?
We recommend all ROES users take advantage of the Size Pallet when selecting products. This is done by clicking on Sizes in the lower left, then selecting Show Sizes Palette. An easy to use window should appear with the products from the catalog you're in.
I dropped my picture in on the left, but now I can't crop it. What am I doing wrong?
It may be full frame. In order to crop a picture you need “wiggle room”. Use the Zoom slider below the product on the left to adjust how much of the image is in frame. Given the space, you should be able to click and drag the image to adjust the crop. It is also possible you have enabled the Crop or Fit option. This is an icon towards the lower left, above the quantity. Make sure it is unchecked if you are still having problems cropping.
My screen is zoomed in! How did I do that, and how do I zoom out?
You probably double-clicked the template. Try double-clicking again to zoom back out.
The Size or Product I want isn't here. Where is it?
Be sure you are in the appropriate catalog. You can switch catalogs using the Size Palette. There are many different sections in ROES take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with them.
Do I have to add proofs in one at a time?
Certainly not! Right click (or ctrl-click on the mac) on one of your images and choose Select All. Now you can drag and drop into the template and it will ask you if you wish to add them all at once. The same system can be applied to proof pages as well. Please note that until you right click and choose Select None, all your images will still be highlighted even after you've added them.
How can I specify Black and White or Sepia?
After placing an image in the template on the left, you can click the Options button in the lower left to choose between Color, Black and White, or one of the three Sepia tones. While there is also an Options button for each image on the Review Order screen, unfortunately Color Options is grayed out.
I've set options for my proof pages but they only apply to the first page. Why?
When choosing options such as background color or text font, you must remember to lock the image options, so they do not change between pages. This is done by clicking the Hold Options button located just above the Sizes and Options buttons. When activated there should be a tiny lock icon on it.
Do I need to rotate my images before dropping them in?
Not necessarily. Depending on your work flow, you may find it easier to rotate in ROES. There are two ways to accomplish this. In some cases you can use the Auto-Rotate option. This is located towards the lower left, above the green plus. This works best with proofs that aren't square sizes. Second, you can select the image(s) you want to rotate, right click (or ctrl-click on a mac) and select Rotate and choose a certain degree.
I added something to my order but need to delete it. How can I do this?
In the Review Order screen (accessed by the button in the lower right) you will see all the items you added to your order. To delete, you can change the quantity of the item to 0, or simply click the red mark to the left of the thumbnail..
Can I use template designer with the Album Pages?
Yes!
I added everything to my order. Now what?
Time to send it in! If you have already reviewed your order, all that is left is to go over the options at the bottom of that screen, such as Delivery and CD/DVD. Once your order specifics are set, you can simply click Complete Order in the lower right. In most cases you will want to leave it on Send Now via the Internet. It is possible, however, to queue it to send later, or even burn it to a CD/DVD and send it to us.
I need an image retouched. How can I indicate this?
This is done through the Options panel, either in the lower left, or next to each item on the Review Order screen. When you click Options, the first choice is Image Options. From here you can pick the specific image (handy for items with many images, such as a proof page), and then either write in instructions or select from the list provided.
How can I attach a note to this job?
If you have specific instructions for the entire job you can hit the Instructions button at the bottom middle of the Review Order screen.
I'm done with the images I've loaded into ROES. How can I get rid of them?
Be careful here. The righthand side of the ROES screen is simply used for viewing a folder on your hard drive. These images aren't loaded in the typical sense. The only want to get rid of them would be to delete them off of your hard drive. What you'll likely want to do is simply wait until you have a new order, then use the Folder option to point ROES towards those new images.
When I select different fonts in the Options pane they are not reflected on my template. Why is this?
This is most likely due to your PC or MAC not having the fonts loaded locally. We provide a zip of all the fonts used in ROES on our website on the Natural Express Network page. Once downloaded and unzipped, the fonts can simply be dropped in the Font Folder on your local hard drive. On a PC this is located in the windows directory (most likely c:\windows\fonts\).
